Featuring mature, purple-brown leaves harvested in June, this amber infusion offers a unique, spicy muskiness frequently called “muscatel.” This second harvest, or second flush, takes place from the onset of summer through the monsoon. During this period, the dark, floral-scented leaves develop a vibrant quality as they absorb rainwater and mature, leading to an increasingly potent aroma. The resulting brew is deep in colour, derived from succulent, moisture-rich leaves that provide a muscatel taste with hints of fruit. Second flush varieties provide a more intense flavour and aroma than the first flush or the light, crisp Autumn Darjeeling, with wet leaves displaying a brilliant copper or violet shade.
